About us
Welcome to the Public School Lodges' Council (PSLC).
In 1909, the Standing Committee of the Public School Lodges was founded by the Lodges of Westminster, Charterhouse, Cheltenham, Sherborne and Clifton to promote and disseminate Public School Freemasonry.
The title of Public School Lodges' Council was adopted in 1936. There are 38 Lodges represented on the Council (including a Lodge for Installed Masters), with Royal Arch Chapters associated with Charterhouse, Christ's Hospital, Sherborne, Merchant Taylors' and Taunton. The Public Schools Royal Arch Chapter is attached to Westminster.
The Council has funds at its disposal for Benevolent and Scholarship purposes. During the past five years, approximately £15,000 has been distributed for charitable purposes. However, in 2024 it was decided to expand charitable giving, and the first donation, of around £41,000, has been made to purchase a Donation Governorship from the Christ's Hospital Foundation. This will enable the PSLC to present a pupil at Christ's Hospital School, and the PSLC Chairman will be the Governor.
The PSLC has a close relationship with another grouping of school lodges, the Federation of School Lodges (FSL), which has in excess of 150 member Lodges. We invite each others members to our respective festivals and are keen to promote masonic and social links between our organisations.
